Hello, I am Cathy Duesterhoeft, and I am Bald by Choice. Nearly four years ago I had a calling when I heard the same Bible verse twice in the same day, from unrelated sources. The Bible verse that spoke to me was 1 Peter 3:3. The verse talks about not adorning yourself or focusing on beauty because that should start on the inside. That verse started my Spiritual Journey. I immersed myself into the religions of the world, expanding my horizons and opening my body, mind and spirit.
I learned that most religious orders of women crop their hair or cut it short. They do this as a symbol of the life they are leading, which is a life of self-sacrifice for God and a renouncing of the things of the world. A woman’s hair is considered her crowning glory and is often a source of vanity. One of the first things I did when I started my journey was shave my head, not because it was my crown and glory, but as a way to provide focus to my studies.
I strive to be a positive influence to others, to grow personally, and basically become a better person. As far as my shaved head, over the last three years it has become a part of me so it will remain shaved because it has become my brand. I recently wrote my story of being bald. Look for my book, Bald by Choice, released in May 2015. Stay connected to my journey through my blog found at www.positiveinfluences.net.
My grandchildren mean the world to me. We have built a new house to be near 4 of them and hope to spend more time with Rosemary who lives 90 minutes away. During this summer I have been able to spend a lot of time with all of them and enjoyed every minute of it!
